August 2010 Summer party time at the gunk-holes

Karen settles in for a smooth sail
across the Bay to the Eastern Shore

Breakfast ,,, always slow, fun
...the way life should be enjoyed

Brent and Alli keep the time lively as
lunch is about ready for all

as we get underway headed home

The 5-hr sail eastward across the Chesapeake Bay to the Eastern Shore from the Norfolk Navy Base gave plenty of time to snuggle into the lounge seat, get the wine glass balanced in the holder, find the book that pulled for attention, and let Otto (our autohelm) take the CON as we enjoyed the smooth sail across the Bay. Dropping the hook off of the Tiki Bar beach on the Eastern Shore, dinghy in the water, motor attached, and we were off to the beach, where the DJ mega sounds and fried chicken -n- fixin's forready for lunch on the beach. We linked upwith friends who motored across the bay from Back Bay (near Langly Air Force Base). As the tide changed to a flood in-bound, dinghy and anchor secured, we pointed The Belle for Portsmouth, VA taking advantage of the 1-2 kt tide push, that with the continued strong NE wind made for another smooth sail. We planned a late night arrival as we traversed the Norfolk inner harbor, and tie-up at the public piers in downtown Portsmouth.  The sleep-in the next day was needed; the smell of hot coffee drifted throughout the cabin and to dockside evidencing that life was aboard. Our kiddo linked -up with us the next morning for some fun time...then back underway, riding the out-bound tide back back to the Chesapeake Bay and the awaiting slip a the Navy Base. A great weekend indeed.
