Sept 2010 - Tri-Service Race on the Southern Chesapeake Bay

Dualing masts as the boats marshal behind the startline
The Belle crosses the start on a strong starboard tack
With winds holding 18-22kts, and 2-3' seas by the time the race was well underway, over 50 boats from the Army, Navy, and Air Force sailing clubs assembled between Ft Monroe Va and the Thimble Shoals light house for the annual Tri-Service race...and Service bragging rights for the Southern Bay. The strong NE wind pushed the rollers down the Bay as the 5 fleets marshalled for the race. The Belle and crew (Chess at the helm with son Brent and daughter-in-law Alli) were in Cruising II. The strong out-going tide added another fun dimension to the race. The 23,000lb Belle held her own, as she finished fourth in the Cruising class. And yes, Army took the trophy again, in the middle of Navy's big backyard.
