30 Aug-2 Sept Yorktown and Mobjack Bay

As summer officially comes to a close, it was time for a sail to Yorktown, VA then off to a raft up with NNSA boats in the Mobjack Bay. The winds this weekend made the trips so enjoyable. The run from Norfolk Navy Base to Yorktown, an easy 4-hr sail, held at 18kts for a broad then close-reach fast sail northward. Yorktown Riverwalk Marina - what a great place. Super thanks to Sue and Mike the dockmasters. And what a current through the marina...get a southside slip that keeps the bow downstream for sure. The Virginia Symphony entertained a packed Riverwalk area with 2 hrs of beautiful music, with our slip the perfect box seat.

We linked up there with our sister-ship Blue Yonder IP 380-27, Tom and Tammi for a fun weekend, and early departure from Yorktown to ride the tide out, then the broad-reach run north through York Spit to Mobjack Bay, East River, then up to "Put-In Creek". A pod of bottle nose dolphins greeted us at the entrance to East River, with antics only matched by Flipper.

The raft up, buffet dinner aboard Come Monday the anchor boat, and evening fun was only matched by the peaceful quietness of the Creek.
The 6-hr sail home was magical, as Blew Yonder set the pace with the 18+knot southwesterly that made for a wonderful close reach run the length of the southern bay...often pressing over 7 knots SOG. While all good things must end, plans are in the making with Blew Yonder for another weekend run across the southern Chesapeake Bay!
